It is the best of times for me …
The weather turned cooler, got a pretty good year in the
bank from my business, the golf game is good…. Could there be more? Yes!
My son bought another house and finally sold the old house and paid back
the short term loan by his dad! (Parents always treasure it when their kids act
like grown ups!) More? For a political junkie like me we have a great
presidential race, good race for congress in our district… Could there be
more? Yes.
For a Cardinal fan like me it is seventh heaven with the Cardinals
fighting for a chance at the World Series….
And more!!!! A chance to take on the evil Yankees in the World Series.
Wow! As a Cardinal fan for more years than I would like to admit… I
remember huddling in my bed, under the covers listening to Cardinal announcer
Harry Carry on KMOX and trying to keep it down so my parents didn’t know I was
listening. After all tomorrow was a
school day! So another chance to
play in the Series is the all in all!
So what is the problem?
A nagging problem persists. No, problems. As to the presidential campaign I am sick of all this
civility. The presidential
candidates warmed up with some minor league snipping at the first debate.
Pretty good for starter, but both did not bring their A
game. Just spring training
for the real thing! Debate two and
three should get better, nastier and more “American”.
But then come Cheney and Lieberman with a civil,
thoughtful, quiet, dull boring debate and everybody in the media fall all over
themselves talking about the “great debate”.
Shades of Rodney King… “Can’t we all get along”.
And what do we get with the second presidential
debate? Yep,
another quiet, civil, dull boring debate! It is like the Cardinals in the first game…. No Mark
McGuire. No going for the fences.
All wait for a walk, single, move the runner over, guard the plate, play
defense.
Can anybody wonder that the viewership is down?
Come on this is serious business. We have a huge decision to make.
Some say there is not a dime’s worth of difference.
Not so, there are huge consequences to this election.
It is like a big boat, a small change in direction coming out of San
Francisco can make a difference between Tahiti and the Artic!
(In this example Tahiti is Republican!)
Get off this civil, aristocratic bent.
Lets go for the fences, wind
up and try and land a haymaker.
Yes, we are all supposed to get along and will….
AFTER the decision is made. Before
the decision on November 7th, it is not time to be nice.
Come on Bush, if Gore made up stories, he is not a
exaggerator, he is a despicable slimy liar. And Gore… you can do it, get nasty,
mean. If Bush is a bumbler,
doesn’t know what he is doing or where Austria is, get all over him! Call a spade a spade… the dummy is out of his league!
Both of you, get in their, get your hands dirty and draw some blood.
It seems that neither of you know the importance of
your mission. America likes a
fight, we like heart, we like someone that can take a punch and come back and
win. We are not Rodney King.
We will “all get along” but after a good fight.
We will get behind a winner that has fought the good fight and won the
day.
So what else….? Well the Cardinals lost the first two
games against the imposter Mets. After
this they are all talking about a subway series.
Get real, I think we have ‘em just where we want them.
We can take a punch and go into New York and show them what we are made
off. No better way to win than to
go into the other “house” and show them how to play ball.
New York does not have it… after all they could not find a single
resident Democrat qualified to run for the Senate, had to import.
But another American trait is also available in these
situations. We
can “whistle by the graveyard” with the best of them!
